As the case with many famous singers, and musicians, Chester Bennington from the band Linkin Park has someone trying to fill his shoes. There is no one debating that Chester had an iconic sound, he had a certain rasp to his voice that very few can come close to replicating. So replacing him was already a growing challenge for the band. Should they try to find someone that sounds like Chester, or just another talented singer that has their own sound.
What I think we can see in these live performances, is a very uncomfortable and awkward blend. On one hand, she is a talented singer. On the other, she sounds nothing like Chester, but she tries really hard to replicate his rasp. Because of this, there seems to be people taking sides who either absolutely hate the new replacement Emily Armstrong, or they have fallen in love with her.
My opinion is a bit neutral, which is why I want some public consensus. I think she's an okay singer, but not the best choice for this band. In my opinion it's some type of publicity stunt, maybe just to drum up this very type of chatter.
Who is Emily?
This singers most well known past work is with the band Dead Sara, founded in 2003. They had a rather niche audience, and never went nearly as mainstream as Linkin Park. Many of her past songs with “Dead Sara” were written, or co-written by Demi Lovato. Just like Demi, the new singer Emily has what many Linkin Park fans would consider to be strange beliefs. These are what many would refer to as “woke” beliefs of ideas. Will that very public personal belief chase away some of their older listeners, and possibly bring in some younger new fans.
According to Chester Bennington’s son, the band Linkin Park has “betrayed the trust of the fans” with their choice, in an interview with Variety, that is linked below. How will the woke new singers “Girl Boss” vibe translate publicly once she settles in, and this awkward honeymoon phase is over? I think that is an important question, especially when you look at the demographics of Linkin Parks fans. Will their mostly based audience like the fact that there is a “woke” biologically female frontman for the band. Will this same energy and label of being “weird” follow her in her new tour with Linkin Park?

I'm indifferent.
She's fine, but nothing will replace Chester (R.I.P.) for me.
