In my opinion, Elon is an Esoteric fellow. His use of a powerful and ancient Rune in the rebranding of Twitter, comes as no surprise. This particular Rune is also quite a logical choice, when you look at the different meanings, they all seem to logically fit. When the Babylon Bee got banned by the former management of the Twitter platform, Elon purchased the platform at a tremendous initial monetary loss. He viewed there ban as political censorship, and wanted Twitter to remain a place where ideas, news, and random thought, could all be exchanged. This epic acquisition, was done as a “Gift” to the world, simply to make sure that the Marketplace of Ideas remained “mostly” free of censorship.
But Why X, the Gebo Rune?
The use of the Gebo rune (ᚷ) as part of the logo for X (formerly Twitter) by Elon Musk can be interpreted through both its symbolic meaning and its historical context within the runic alphabets used by various Germanic, Anglo-Saxon, and Celtic peoples. Here's an exploration of why Musk might have chosen this symbol, considering its historical and symbolic significance:
Symbolic Meaning of Gebo:
Gift and Generosity: In the Elder Futhark, Gebo symbolizes the concept of gift-giving, generosity, and mutual exchange. This rune represents the balance between giving and receiving, suggesting a reciprocal relationship where both parties benefit. The idea of 'X' as a crossroads also resonates with Gebo, symbolizing the intersection of ideas, people, or opportunities. This could align with Musk's vision for X as a platform where information, ideas, and communication are exchanged freely among users, creating a community of mutual benefit.
Partnership and Unity: Gebo also signifies partnership, union, and the balance of energies. In the context of social media, this might reflect Musk's aim for X to foster connections, collaborations, and discussions among its users, enhancing community and shared experiences.
Historical Use of Runes:
Germanic Peoples: The Elder Futhark, which includes the Gebo rune, was used by various Germanic tribes from the 2nd to the 8th centuries. These runes were not just an alphabet but also carried esoteric meanings, used in magic, divination, and as symbols of cultural identity. They were inscribed on stones, weapons, and artifacts, often marking significant events or dedications.
Anglo-Saxon (Futhorc): The Anglo-Saxon rune poem gives the name "Gyfu" to this rune, emphasizing its association with generosity. The Anglo-Saxons expanded the Elder Futhark into the Futhorc to accommodate the phonetics of Old English, reflecting their cultural adaptation of the runes for both writing and symbolic purposes.
Celtic Influence: While runic alphabets are primarily associated with Germanic cultures, there's some overlap with Celtic areas, particularly in regions like Frisia where Anglo-Saxon influences were strong. The Celts did not use runes in the same way but had their own scripts like Ogham. However, the concept of gift-giving and exchange is also a theme in Celtic mythology, which could resonate with the Gebo rune's meaning.
Saxon Use: The Saxons, part of the broader Germanic group, used runes extensively, particularly in their early history before the widespread adoption of the Latin alphabet. Runes were used in daily life, warfare, and ritual, embodying the cultural and spiritual aspects of Saxon life.
Why Elon Musk Might Have Chosen Gebo:
Brand Identity: The 'X' shape of Gebo aligns visually with the rebranding of Twitter to X, offering a simple yet profound logo that can signify multiple concepts like exchange, connection, and communication.
Cultural and Historical Resonance: By adopting a rune, Musk might be tapping into a sense of historical depth and cultural heritage, appealing to those interested in ancient symbolism or those looking for a connection to pre-Christian European traditions.
Philosophical Alignment: The themes of Gebo might reflect Musk's personal or corporate philosophy of fostering innovation through collaboration, sharing knowledge, and the reciprocal nature of success in the digital age.
Modern Mysticism: In contemporary times, runes like Gebo are often used in neo-pagan practices or by those interested in mysticism. Musk might be acknowledging this subculture, or he could simply find the symbol aesthetically pleasing or symbolically rich.
Will we ever really know how “esoteric” Elon is, or why this particular rune was chosen? Probably not anytime soon, and that’s simply because of his current position in the U.S. Government, in the newly formed D.O.G.E. or Department Of Government Efficiency. If anyone in the 1% world of elite business people had the ability, means, or will to bury Esoteric meaning in everything they do, it’s Elon Musk.
