Why did an Antifa member light himself on fire, at a Trump trial?
The Answer is far stranger than anything you would imagine.
Let me open by saying, this article will be written with the amount of decorum, and seriousness that it deserves. Any time a human is driven to take their own life, it is truly tragic.
He DID NOT do this to point out Trump's crimes.
The victim in this story, is Max Azzarello. The very man who lit himself in fire. The progression of his train of thought, and process of discovery can be seen like stepping stones in his publication “The Ponzi Papers.” When his writing began, he was 100% Liberal Democrat, donated to the party, had his picture taken with Clinton and the whole 9 yards. He had a deep passion for supporting political causes. He also had what some would consider to be radical affiliations with “Antifa.” The point I am getting at here, is that this man was NOT a Donald Trump supporter. So why did he set himself ablaze out front of the “Hush Money” trial? This was probably the least political trial against him, so him travelling from Florida where he currently lived, to NYC to do this, was a curious choice by itself.
The one thing I will not do, is rationalize the thought process of an insane person. Because, if we are being honest here, these actions reflect the insanity. What I am attempting to Uncover here instead, and do in a way that is some what understandable, is HOW he progressed to that point. Thankfully for us, Max himself left a progressive trail of his thoughts, a trail leading down that very path. Using that, we will try to analyze his last few weeks.
What Drove Him to This Extreme Act?
The reality that Max lived in for the last ten years, was torn away. He like many other American Citizens, was concerned that the very Democracy in America was under attack. He believed that Trump was at the root of a corrupted political party, one that wanted to basically abolish the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Everything that he saw on the News over the last 9 years, had led him and Tens of Millions of others to that very belief. Around December of 2023, Max really started digging, and his writing went from left wing and liberal, to despising the whole system.
Max wanted to educate everyone about these things, he wanted to lay it out with all the facts, and make sure that his point was solid. So, he started writing articles laid out like political essays on the platform known as Substack. The first few articles that he wrote, clearly show his bias politically. They were very similar to the types of political hit pieces, that you see in large publications like Rolling Stone, Time, and so many others. Then Max had a moment, and after that he began researching much deeper. His articles then took a quick turn, going from his political hit pieces, to the types of political essays that were mentioned earlier. He began pointing out facts that the mainstream media was either avoiding, or flat out lying about.
He was no longer just repeating the CNN headlines, and then adding in his feelings on the matter. He began pointing out the political bias in full. Then in some type of twisted epiphany he started ranting about being lied to. It hit him like a brick. Max had the fragile bubble of reality, that was built up by CNN, ABC, and MSNBC just burst around him. There is a term that was coined just for this type of moment. The reason it deserves a coined term being, because of how mentally broken, and devastated it leaves the people. That term could be used a few different ways, it's meaning has evolved since it's first usage. In the beginning, it was used in context with misogyny, and politically incorrect ideas. In today's context, it's simply worded as being fatalist, or defeatist. Max being “Black Pilled,” or if you prefer having a major “Black Pill” moment, was shortly before his last post. Where he saw something that gave him the solid belief that we were all hopelessly doomed.
Being black pilled means adopting a fatalist belief, that fixing the situation is no longer an option. He went from being a person that was amplified and held up by the political left, to being demonized. This flip happened to Max over a period of roughly a week. Everyone that supported him, and shared his content, now began criticizing him. It was too much for him to handle mentally, in such a short time frame.
It is obvious that Max was mentally ill, this is especially easy to see when going through his writings. The mental state that he was in at the time being unbalanced, does not mean that the things wrote he was wrong. This situation is quite to the contrary actually, he actually added the sources, and links supporting the things he said, and wrote. It is the fact that they were true, and that nobody was shining a spotlight on it, that finally broke him. He finally discovered that reality was far stranger, and less believable than the Bread and Circus propaganda the media flooded us all with. This leads us to ask another question.
Why is Max being labeled a Conspiracy Nut?
He supported all the right causes, had his profiles on social media loaded with all the right support flags, and clearly posted his pronouns. The minute that Max began to write things like the government is a Uni-Party, or that the hypothetical “they” designed a plan to divide the public, he became an outcast.
He discovered that the true divide is not Red vs. Blue, or Israel vs. Palestine. It isn't between the wealthy and poor, or Christians vs. Atheists. The real divide was the Government vs. The People. The Government is too broad of a term really, Ultra-Powerful Club Members vs. the World is the only real way to lay it out. We know that it is not the whole Government, simply because of the political attacks on half of it. Leading Max to the entire reason that the Donald Trump trial was his chosen stage, for a final flaming protest.
No matter how he tried to lay out the proof, or convince even his friends and family, they wouldn't hear him. He had actual evidence, that we were all being distracted while the elite extract our wealth, and they still would not listen to him. He just did not understand why, it's not like he was trying to convince them Trump was good, and they should vote for the guy. He was not suggesting anything like that. He simply suggested, that people should do the basic research, and look deeper in to those shocking headlines themselves. That’s when he first felt the push back, but he did not let that stop him. Instead, he began writing “The Ponzi Papers” mentioned earlier, under the pen name M. Crosby.
The Ponzi Papers - by M. Crosby
I encourage anyone who is curious, ☝️ to click the link above. This guy both published, and linked to, a massive library of evidence in his articles. His ideas all had tangible roots and origins. They may have steered off into insanity on certain rants, but they all began with a solid fact at the heart of them.
They deserve to be read.
Thank you for reading, you are the greatest audience I could ever hope for, and because of that, I give you my word that me lighting myself in fire, or some other form of ultimate protest, is not going to happen. My writing will just keep coming. I understand the simple fact, that I do not have to participate in the corrupted system. I can go live in the mountains off grid, with my chickens, and pigs. Up there among the trees and streams, the happenings in Washington DC have very little sway on ones daily actions.
Keep your Ancestral Traditions alive.

Thank you, and just a caution.
Read his works with a grain of salt.
Wonderful article, bro. I'm definitely gonna read the guy's substack posts
